It wasn't long ago that I shared with you the start of my journey seeking local greatness in Dallas!
Remember how great The Yellowhammers were?! Throughout the weeks as the stories have been shared on my Instagram, greatness was shared, “liked” and most importantly, embraced. From amazing people to phenomenal businesses – greatness seeps out of North Texas!
In the season of giving I partnered with a true Texan staple, the Ozarka® Brand, for its Greatness Springs from HereTM campaign! During the season, I shared with you people and local businesses in North Texas that exude and amplify greatness!
At the start of my journey I didn’t have to look far, Iris Candelaria has been painting her greatness across the Dallas skyline for years. With every stroke of the brush on the canvas and every cake decorated at her family business – she is continuously putting others needs before herself. From donating proceeds from her painting classes to volunteering her time to Color Me Empowered and helping underprivileged and at-risk kids create art after school – she radiates greatness in all that she does.
For the next stop on my journey I stopped at a McKinney based restaurant serving hugs!
“Order up!” A heaping serving of greatness.
Emerging from the dream of Founder and President Ruth Thompson, the non-profit Hugs Café is run and operated primarily by Special Needs Adults. Her passion for greatness has touched her employees, the community and even the nation.
When I headed back to Dallas, I paid a visit to a woman and clinic that are healing Dallas residents one patient at a time. Stephanie Bohan, the visionary behind The Agape Clinic, exudes greatness as the Agape Clinic continues to serve the under and un-insured. The clinics mission is to first-hand ensure that no one is without healthcare. In the almost eight years she has been serving as the Executive Director, their service has increased from 2,800 patient visits per year to nearly 17,000 by the close of 2017! With the rapid growth, The Agape Clinic is now offering dental and additional extensive services outside general healthcare! She is driven by the patients she serves and volunteers that assist – providing Dallasites a place to heal is her life’s work.
My quest for discovering greatness in North Texas wouldn’t be complete without Texas’ own Norma’s Café. This café has maintained their commitment to the community through its service and fundraising efforts for over 60 years! Norma’s has raised more than $72,000 in 2017 combined for the Special Olympics, Assist the Officers, The Birthday Party Project, Dallas DogRRR and North Texas Food Bank!
They’re greatness is better than their cherry pie (which is saying a heck of a lot)!
Where have you found #LocalGreatness in Dallas?
